Workshop in Bulgaria: Building Connections and Skills at the Youthopia Center (April 20-24, 2024)
From April 20-24, 2024, the Youthopia Center in Bulgaria came alive with the energy of young people from across Europe, gathered for an Erasmus+ workshop focused on connection, culture, and creativity. Over five days, we explored digital skills, learned about civic engagement, and got a taste of different cultures—all while building friendships that would last well beyond the workshop.
The journey began with a traditional Bulgarian breakfast, setting a welcoming and collaborative tone. There’s something about sharing local food that makes everyone feel at home, and it was the perfect kickoff for the days to come. After breakfast, each partner organization introduced themselves, sharing their backgrounds and the goals of the Erasmus+ project. It was inspiring to see the range of talent and vision that each participant brought to the table.
Building a Foundation of Connection and Understanding
On the second day, we dived deep into the concept of cultural identity. We created a “Cultural Identity Tree,” where each participant added leaves representing aspects of their own culture. This exercise not only showed us our group’s diversity but also made us appreciate the unique perspectives each person brought. We wrapped up the day with a session exploring the Erasmus+ program itself, understanding how its resources and opportunities can be a launchpad for both personal and professional growth.
Mastering Digital Marketing and Creative Technologies
The third day was packed with hands-on activities in digital marketing and creative tech. Starting with a session on digital marketing essentials, we learned practical strategies for creating an impactful online presence. The real excitement, though, came when we explored AI tools for content creation. Practicing with ChatGPT, we got a taste of how AI can elevate our writing, making it more engaging and accessible for different platforms.
An afternoon session on AI-powered video content creation was a highlight. With expert insights from Johan Virt and Ivana Barova, who shared their experience from the TV industry, we learned how to plan, script, and produce quality videos. These sessions showed us the potential of AI and digital tools, giving us new ways to amplify our voices and ideas.
Civic Engagement and Real-World Application
The focus of the fourth day was on civic engagement and event planning. We began by exploring what it means to be a civic agent, learning strategies to engage communities and drive social change. This session left us feeling empowered, realizing that we could make a difference in our own local spaces. Afterward, we formed teams to work on practical tasks like copywriting, design, and video production. This was a chance to apply everything we’d learned, collaborating to create content that aligned with our goals and message.
